Taras Shevchenko Park

The Taras Shevchenko Park (the so-called Green Building of the KNU) is located opposite the main building of Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv. It has the status of a park monument of garden and park art of local significance. The Park was founded in 1860 under the name University Square. On the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the great writer's birth in 1939, a monument to Taras Shevchenko was established in the central part of the park. The so-called "Sadochok" (garden) is the southern corner of the park, where Kyiv residents and visitors often play chess, dominoes, backgammon, or cards.
