The Holy Pokrovska Podilska Church is a historic brick church located in Podil. Built in 1685, it became an important religious center for the local community. Between 1766 and 1772, the architect Ivan Hryhorovych-Barskyi remodelled the church, giving it its impressive two-story structure and three domes. A fire in 1811 altered the church's architectural design, affecting the shapes of the domes and facades. The separate bell tower, constructed in the late 18th century, also underwent renovations and was converted into a brick bell tower in 1831.
Throughout its history, the church has experienced various events, including its closure during the Soviet period and the resumption of services during the German occupation in 1941. In 1991, the church was transferred to the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (UAOC) and became a cathedral.
As an architectural and spiritual treasure, the Holy Pokrovska Podilska Church holds significant importance not only for the Podil neighbourhood but for all of Kyiv, preserving its historical significance and spiritual traditions.
