St. Mykola Dobroho Church

0 15 0

Some researchers of the history of Kyiv believe that the church in the name of St. Nicholas existed in this area even before the Tatar-Mongol invasion in 1240. It is known that at the end of the 16th century, Hetman Matvii Kushka (Samiylo Kishka) rebuilt the church in gratitude to St. Nicholas for his release from Turkish captivity. In 1807, a new Dobro-Mykolaivska church was built according to the project of Kyiv architect A.I. Melensky. It was decorated with Empire-style elements, and the interior was decorated with a classic iconostasis. However, in 1935, the church was destroyed. The bell tower, which miraculously survived, was restored, and a chapel in honour of the Holy Great Martyr Barbara is located on the second floor. Today, the parish of St. Nicholas of the UGCC operates on its territory, and there is a bookshop in the bell tower.
