Taras Shevchenko National Museum in Kyiv was created on the basis of the former Taras Shevchenko Art Gallery in Kharkiv and Taras Shevchenko Central State Museum in Kyiv in 1949. In 1933, T. H. Shevchenko Art Gallery was founded on the basis of the literary museum that operated at Taras Shevchenko Institute in Kharkiv, which began working in 1934. The museum contains unique collections, including original works by Shevchenko, handwritten lists of his poems, rare photographs of the poet and his friends, as well as first editions of his works with autographs. The exhibition is housed in 24 halls, where more than 4 thousand exhibits are presented, including works by artists, sculptors, writers and composers, all related to Shevchenko's time. The museum also has rich funds, which include works and materials that underscore the global significance of Shevchenko's creative output and his lasting impact on Ukrainian culture.
