Bessarabsky Market

0 20 0

The Bessarabsky Market was constructed between 1910 and 1912, designed by architect Henryk Gay. One theory suggests that the market's name comes from the many traders who visited from the southern provinces, especially from Bessarabia. The market's facades feature reliefs depicting pastoral scenes, including a "Milkmaid", a "Peasant with Bulls", and "Fish". The entrance arches are adorned with sculptures of bulls' heads. Built in the rational Art Nouveau style, the Bessarabsky Market continues to attract both locals and tourists with its striking architecture. Inside the market, visitors can find a wide selection of local products. These include various types of salo, the famous "General's salo", wood-smoked sausage, homemade pickles, fragrant vegetables, aromatic honey crafted by a family of beekeepers, fresh khachapuri from the oven, healthy juices, and more. There is also a diverse range of souvenirs and gifts available, such as handmade embroidered shirts, magnets, keychains, motanka dolls, jewelry, and accessories. In addition, the Bessarabsky Market features several cafes and restaurants offering a variety of cuisines, including Ukrainian, European, Asian, and others.
