The Kyiv River Port is situated on the right bank of the Dnipro River in the historical area of Podil. The port was constructed between 1957 and 1961 on Poshtova Square and was designed by architects Vadym Hopkalo, Vadym Ladnyi, Hryhoriy Slutskyi, among others. In the 1970s, the port became not only an architectural landmark of Poshtova Square but also a vital transportation hub. The building featured two waiting rooms accommodating 500 passengers, ticket offices, a post office, a bus station, a restaurant, a buffet, and a hotel. The interior of the river port still showcases unique constructivist mosaics, which are regarded as significant examples of Ukrainian Sixties art. All eight frescoes are dedicated to the history of Ukraine. In 2021, the building became part of American University Kyiv, the first private university in Ukraine to operate under the American education model. Following over two years of restoration work, the port reopened in April 2023. Today, the Kyiv River Port stands as a valuable architectural structure and a modern educational center that blends historical heritage with innovative approaches.
