Kyiv TV Tower

0 20 0

The Kyiv TV Tower is an all-metal spatial lattice high-rise structure with a height of 380 meters, built in 1968-1973 according to the project of the Kyiv institute "UkrNDIproektstalkonstruktsiya" named after Shymanovsky. It is located in a historical place – in Syrets, near the Babyn Yar. This TV tower is considered the tallest lattice free-standing structure in the world and the tallest structure in Ukraine. Regarding height among TV towers, it ranks second in Europe and eleventh in the world, is included in the register of architectural and urban planning monuments, and has the status of a cultural heritage object. A distinctive feature of the Kyiv TV Tower's construction is that bolts or rivets were not used to assemble its tubular elements. The tower was built using a unique "top-down" erection method without lifting cranes or helicopters. On March 1, 2022, Russian occupiers launched two targeted missile strikes on the structure; however, the tower's unique design withstood the shelling. Currently, the TV tower performs a vital function in distributing signals to television and radio antennas and providing communication for various services.
