European Square

0 19 0

The area now known as European Square was originally called Evseikova Valley in the 17th century. By the 19th century, it had become known as Horse Square, a venue for horse fairs. In 1996, it was renamed European Square after the nearby "Europe" Hotel. Over the years, the square's significance and unique character have been greatly enhanced by the picturesque parks that line the nearby slopes of the Dnipro River, with the first park established in 1741. This location has been the site of political demonstrations, protests, and rallies, and has evolved into a vital cultural and historical center in the city. Within European Square, visitors can explore several key attractions, including the "Ukrainian House", which frequently hosts various exhibitions; the National Philharmonic of Ukraine, known for its remarkable acoustics; the enchanting Kyiv Academic Puppet Theater; and the National Library of Ukraine named after Yaroslav the Wise, an important institution for culture, education, science, and information.
